180,000 have been halted by Chinese authorities for scattering
pornographic content as the country tossed an Internet clean-up operation in
March.
The campaign uncovered 5.6 million illegal publications
and more than 10,000 web sites were penalized for law and regulation
violations, according to a statement issued by the National Office Against
Pornographic and Illegal Publications.
The campaign started by the office against online
pornography, illegal online game trailers, mobile systems
submissions and online media players in March. Though primarily programmed to
conclude at the end of May, the campaign will be extended into late June,
according to the enforcement that was put in place in Beijing. And next step
will involve focusing on cracking key cases of violations and enhancing web
site management all over the country.
