Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, who is the assistant secretary general of the Jamaat-e-Islami party was convicted for charges of genocide and torture of civilians during the 1971 war for independence. The Bangladesh war crimes tribunal found him guilty and sentenced him to death on Thursday. There are fears of clashes between police and protesters.
