Sky eradicates several of its apps comprising of Sky Go, Sky News, and Sky Sports News from the Google Play Store after being hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army.
Broadcaster Sky is the latest media company to plunge victim to the Electronic Syrian Army so far. The British satellite broadcaster of Android apps and Twitter account were hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army as the spokesperson also announced that a tweet from the Sky Help Team advising people to uninstall their Android apps is not from the company.Sky is currently scrutinizing the situation as they promise to provide further update about the issue when they have more information."
The Broadcaster Help Team's Twitter account has been conceded, and the tweet that states customers should uninstall their apps is not guidance from Sky.
Sky was the latest target of the Syrian Electronic Army as the cluster which is sympathetic to Syrian President Bashar Assad, have booked credit for hacking into the social media accounts as the hack came less than a week after Twitter introduced a two-factor authentication system to help affiliates to keep their accounts more secure. Twitter also recently sent out a memo to major media companies cautioning that attacks will linger, and urged companies to minimize the number of people that have access to accounts to prevent social error.
